Hundreds of residents at Abandze on Thursday blocked the main road of Abandze close to Cape Coast in the Central Region preventing former President John Dramani Mahama from leaving the community.
The Presidential Candidate of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), after visiting Gomoa West, Ekumfi and Mfantseman was on his way back but the residents insisted he will not be allowed until he addressed them.
Road blocks were mounted at the exit and entrance points of the town forcing him forcing him to address them before they allowed his convoy to leave the community.
The former President was in the Central Region as part of his tour to interact with fishermen, drivers, stakeholders and hawkers which Abandze was not part but on his way to University of Cape Coast (UCC) to give a public lecture as the special guest, the huge crowd trooped to the main road and appealed to the former president to at least say something to them.
But Mr. Mahama who was minutes late for the event appealed to the residents to allow him go and arrange some other time for an interaction but they would not budge until he obliged to their request and addressed them from his vehicle.
He assured them that on his second coming, he will save Ghanaians from the current economic hardship and appealed to them to forgive him since it’s not his intention to ignore them promising to pay them visit at a rightful time.
Former President Mahama earlier paid a courtesy call on chiefs and people of late President Prof Evans Atta Mills’ hometown to seek for their prayers and blessings to win power.
The Acting Odekro of Otuam, Nana Okai Bokoe appealed to former President Dramani Mahama to remember them and late President Mills when he gets the nod to rule the nation.
